Learning how to spot a fake The Row bag starts with the interior logo, leather, hardware, and stitching. When I run a The Row authentication, I follow these four steps:
Step 1
Interior logo & stamp inspection:
The Row keeps its branding discreet, usually a small embossed or stamped logo inside the bag. The lettering should be clean, evenly pressed, and sharp, with no blurring or double impressions. Logo placement can vary between production runs, so judge the quality of the stamp, not just its position.
Step 2
Leather grain & texture:
Genuine The Row leather feels soft, heavy, and natural, with a grain that looks organic. Leather that feels like plastic, looks too shiny, or shows repeating lines that are not part of the natural grain is a red flag. Normal scuffs on an older bag are fine, but the texture itself should still look real.
Step 3
Hardware & finish:
The Row hardware is simple and well made, so it should feel solid and look clean, with an even finish and no rough edges or pitting. Small hardware changes do happen between seasons, so compare the clasp, rings, and zippers to photos of a confirmed authentic bag. Light or cheap hardware is a red flag.
Step 4
Stitching & construction:
Look closely at the seams, edges, and handle attachments. Genuine pieces show precise, even stitching, clean edge finishing, and a sturdy structure that holds its shape.
