How it works

Three steps from photos to proof. Every verdict is made by Boaz, not by software.

  1. Uploading photos of a handbag for authentication

    Step 1

    Upload your photos

Pick your brand and item type, then upload clear photos of labels, stamps, hardware and stitching.

    Which photos do I need?
  2. Boaz reviewing the details of a handbag

    Step 2

    Boaz reviews every detail

He checks fonts, materials, construction, codes and the brand-specific tells that replicas get wrong. If something is unclear, he asks for more photos.

  3. Legitique verification report

    Step 3

    Get your verdict and certificate

Within 24 hours: authentic, not authentic or inconclusive, with the reasons why, plus a PDF certificate you can share.

Saint Laurent authentication process and serial number check

To authenticate a Saint Laurent bag, I review the interior stamp, serial number, YSL logo, and hardware together. When I run a Saint Laurent authentication, I follow these four steps:

  1. Step 1

    Interior tag & stamp:

Saint Laurent bags carry an interior stamp or leather tab reading "SAINT LAURENT PARIS" with "MADE IN ITALY" beneath it. Genuine characters are stamped individually with slight natural variation, while fakes often look pressed with a single plate. Blurry, uneven, or shallow lettering is a red flag.

  2. Step 2

    Serial number verification:

Modern bags usually carry a serial stamped on the interior lining near a seam or pocket, normally on a single row. Formats differ by era and model, and Saint Laurent does not publish a decoder, so a YSL serial number check is only one clue. Never use it as the only test.

  3. Step 3

    YSL logo & overlaps:

On the genuine YSL logo, the left arm of the Y is thicker and sits beneath the S, the right arm overlaps it, and the S tucks behind the L. Edges should be crisp and the logo centered and firmly attached. Flat overlaps, pitted metal, or rounded edges point to a fake Saint Laurent.

  4. Step 4

    Hardware, lining & stitching:

Genuine hardware has a clean, even finish with no chips or discoloration, and every piece on the bag matches. The lining and edges should be neatly finished, with no loose threads or stray double stitching. For added confidence, use my online Saint Laurent authentication, where I compare your bag against official standards.

Within 24 hours of uploading clear photos, in most cases. If Boaz needs another photo, he asks straight away, so you're never left waiting without a reply.

Every Saint Laurent item: clothing, bags, accessories and shoes, including vintage and rare pieces. Choose the category when you order. If your item doesn't fit one, choose "Other" and Boaz will take a look.

No. Counterfeiters copy genuine Saint Laurent serial numbers, so a serial number that looks right only tells you the format fits. Boaz checks it against the item in your photos and against the stamps, stitching, hardware and materials.

You can check the serial number yourself for free with the Saint Laurent serial number checker.

Usually 8–12 photos taken with your phone in daylight: the full item front and back, the inside or labels, the brand stamp, any serial or date code, and close-ups of hardware and stitching.

The photo guide shows exactly what to take for bags, clothing, shoes and accessories.

If it's not authentic, you get a written verdict with the specific reasons, which many clients use as evidence with the seller, the marketplace or PayPal. Each platform makes its own decision, so we can't promise an outcome.

If the result is inconclusive, Boaz first asks for more photos. If it stays inconclusive, he explains why and refunds your order in full.

No. Every Saint Laurent verdict is made by Boaz, a human authenticator, not by an app or AI scanner. That's why each verdict comes with the reasons behind it.

Where Can I Get My Yves Saint Laurent Authenticated?

Legitique. Send a few photos, hear back from a real authenticator within 24 hours. No AI, no guesswork, no shipping required.

Boutique staff aren't trained or authorized to confirm authenticity, even to help with a repair. If you need a real answer before you buy, sell, or resell, a store visit won't get you one. You need an independent expert who does this every day.
