Balenciaga Serial Number Checker
Enter your Balenciaga tag number
Type the first number group and the letter after it, for example 115748 K. You can paste the full line; the checker reads what it needs.
Does the code fit the item?
Compare the decoded code with the item's visible details. A match supports consistency, but it does not authenticate the item.
What is a Balenciaga serial number?
Balenciaga bags carry a small leather tag inside, usually white or matching the lining, with "Balenciaga" and "Made in Italy" on the front and a line of numbers on the back. The first six digits are the style number, which identifies the model. On many bags a single capital letter follows it: the season letter.
The remaining numbers on the back are internal production and colour references. They change by season, style and colour and are not useful for authentication on their own.
How to use this Balenciaga serial number checker
Type the six-digit style number and the letter after it. The checker shows every season that letter has been used for, with how well each one is documented, because Balenciaga has restarted its alphabet and most letters now point to two seasons.
Then check that the style number matches the front of the tag and the model in front of you. If anything conflicts, a professional authentication is the safer next step. For other brands, start with the designer serial number checker hub.
What does a Balenciaga tag result mean?
A Recognized season letter means the letter points to one documented season. Letter used for more than one season is the normal result for most letters: use the hardware and leather to choose. Style number only means no letter was found, which fits bags from before F/W 2003 and some tags that print digits only.
Each season is labelled by how well it is documented. Seasons from F/W 2003 to F/W 2017 appear identically in two independent references. Later seasons come from a single reference, and the 2023 to 2025 entries break the usual backwards order, so treat those as unconfirmed.
Balenciaga season letter chart
Balenciaga runs its season letters backwards through the alphabet, starting with D for F/W 2003. The key has never been published by Balenciaga; this chart is reconstructed from authenticated bags.
| Letter | First use | Second use | Documentation |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | S/S 2005 | F/W 2017 | Both confirmed by two references |
| B | F/W 2004 | S/S 2017 | Both confirmed by two references |
| C | S/S 2004 | F/W 2016 | Both confirmed by two references |
| D | F/W 2003 | S/S 2016 | Both confirmed by two references |
| E | F/W 2015 | — | Confirmed by two references |
| F | S/S 2015 | — | Confirmed by two references |
| G | F/W 2014 | — | Confirmed by two references |
| H | S/S 2014 | — | Confirmed by two references |
| I | F/W 2013 | — | Confirmed by two references |
| J | S/S 2013 | — | Confirmed by two references |
| K | F/W 2012 | S/S 2025 | Second use unconfirmed |
| L | S/S 2012 | F/W 2025 | Second use unconfirmed |
| M | F/W 2011 | S/S 2024 | Second use unconfirmed |
| N | S/S 2011 | F/W 2024 | Second use unconfirmed |
| O | F/W 2010 | F/W 2023 | Second use unconfirmed |
| P | S/S 2010 | S/S 2023 | Second use unconfirmed |
| Q | F/W 2009 | F/W 2022 | Second use from one reference |
| R | S/S 2009 | S/S 2022 | Second use from one reference |
| S | F/W 2008 | F/W 2021 | Second use from one reference |
| T | S/S 2008 | S/S 2021 | Second use from one reference |
| U | F/W 2007 | F/W 2020 | Second use from one reference |
| V | S/S 2007 | S/S 2020 | Second use from one reference |
| W | F/W 2006 | F/W 2019 | Second use from one reference |
| X | S/S 2019 | — | One reference (skipped in 2006) |
| Y | S/S 2006 | F/W 2018 | Second use from one reference |
| Z | F/W 2005 | S/S 2018 | Second use from one reference |
Where two references agree, we treat the season as confirmed. Where only one reference lists a season, the checker says so instead of presenting it as fact.
Where to find the tag on a Balenciaga bag
Look for a small leather tag stitched inside the main compartment, usually near the top seam or inside the zip pocket. The front reads "Balenciaga" and "Made in Italy"; the numbers are on the back.
Some older bags have a metal plate sewn over the leather tag. On those, the back of the leather tag carries the numbers and the back of the plate is blank. The tag should be stitched, never glued.

What if the tag has no season letter?
Bags made before F/W 2003 have no season letter, and some lines and tag types print digits only. A missing letter is not proof of a fake, but it does mean the tag cannot date the bag.
For those bags, the hardware generation, the leather, the tassel and zipper pulls and the model's production run are what date the piece. That is also how an authenticator chooses between two seasons that share a letter.
Why a Balenciaga tag can still be misleading
Good counterfeits copy Balenciaga tags exactly, including the style number and a correct-looking season letter. A plausible tag on the wrong hardware generation is a red flag, not a reassurance.
The front-to-back style number match is the one tag test most references agree on. Beyond that, the leather, hardware, stitching and lining tell an authenticator far more than the digits. Legitique reviews those signals together.
What to do after checking your Balenciaga tag
Check that the style number matches the front of the tag and the model in front of you. Then use the hardware and leather to pick between the possible seasons, and compare the result with when that model and colour were produced.
Before buying, selling or filing a dispute, get a professional Balenciaga authentication with photos of the full bag, both sides of the tag, the hardware, zipper pulls, stitching and interior.
When to order a professional Balenciaga authentication
Order an authentication when the price is high, the seller is unknown, the tag is missing or unclear, the front and back numbers differ, or you plan to use the result for a marketplace claim, chargeback or resale listing.
See how it works and what the Certificate of Authenticity includes.
Do Balenciaga shoes and clothing use the same tag?
No. This checker covers the leather tags in Balenciaga bags and small leather goods. Shoes and ready-to-wear use different labels with their own production references.

Balenciaga serial number checker questions
Answers to the questions that come up most often when checking a Balenciaga tag.
How do I read a Balenciaga serial number?
On the back of the leather tag, the first six digits are the style number. If a single capital letter follows, that is the season letter. In 115748 K, 115748 is the style and K is the season.
What does the letter on a Balenciaga tag mean?
It marks the production season. Balenciaga runs the letters backwards through the alphabet, starting with D for F/W 2003, and has since restarted, so most letters point to two different seasons.
How do I tell which of two seasons my bag is from?
Use the hardware generation, the leather, the tassels and zipper pulls and the model's production run. An authenticator compares these with confirmed examples from each season.
Has Balenciaga published the season letter chart?
No. The chart is reconstructed from authenticated bags. Seasons from F/W 2003 to F/W 2017 match across two independent references; later seasons are less well documented and labelled as such.
Should the numbers on the front and back of the tag match?
Yes. On an authentic tag the style number on the front matches the back. A mismatch is one of the most widely agreed warning signs.
What do the other numbers on the back mean?
They are internal production and colour references that change by season, style and colour. They are not useful for authentication on their own.
My Balenciaga tag has no letter. Is it fake?
Not necessarily. Bags from before F/W 2003 have no letter, and some tags print digits only. It does mean the tag cannot date the bag.
Does a correct tag prove my Balenciaga is authentic?
No. Good counterfeits copy tags exactly. The hardware, leather, stitching and construction matter much more than the tag.
