Coach authentication process and creed patch check

Knowing how to spot a fake Coach bag starts with the creed patch, style number, hangtag, and construction. When I run a Coach authentication, I follow these four steps:

  1. Step 1

    Creed patch inspection:

    Coach bags made after 1994 carry a leather Coach creed patch sewn inside, never glued. The text should be deeply and clearly heat-stamped. A blank, loosely attached, or blurry creed patch is a major red flag, and a good first check before looking at anything else on the bag.

  2. Step 2

    Style & serial number check:

    Most newer Coach bags use a style number, a letter followed by digits, while older bags had a true serial number. The number should be consistent everywhere on the bag and match the hangtag. Online lookups are unreliable, so treat a Coach serial number check as one clue, not proof.

  3. Step 3

    Hangtag & signature C pattern:

    The Coach hangtag should be made of quality material with sharp lettering, and its number should match the one inside the bag. On Coach signature canvas, the interlocking C pattern should be symmetrical and aligned across seams, with no cut-off or crooked logos.

  4. Step 4

    Stitching, hardware & leather:
